Vanua Levu

In a world where even small remote islands have become popular tourist destinations, it’s increasingly rare to find a sizable South Pacific isle that has remained largely undeveloped. And therein lies the basic charm of Vanua Levu, the second largest among Fiji’s 330 or so islands. There are not a lot of beaches on Vanua Levu, but, there are some good ones here and there, many of which have been used to good advantage by several resorts and private villas.

The main tourist area of Vanua Levu is in the region from Savusavu east towards Buca Bay. There are some offshore islands also, such as Nukubati and Namenalala - these have excellent white sand beaches, and in the case of Nukubati, a largely undiscovered surf break, and some of the best diving and snorkeling in Fiji, on the Great Sea Reef.
